Pipe Support
Though PVC and CPVC pipe materials are relatively light compared to metal piping, they still can become rather heavy when installed. That is especially true for long runs of pipe. Because we don’t want our pipe laying on the ground or floor, in many cases it is necessary to use pipe supports like pipe hangers or pipe straps. Our selection of pipe straps are specially designed for supporting PVC pipe.

Types of Pipe Support
Pipe Support Hangers
Pipe hangers are parts that can be fastened to something else to support a length of pipe. Generally, one side is made with a rounded end that holds the pipe up, and the other side is made for securing to a beam or other structural element.
Pipe Support Straps
Pipe straps are usually a semi-circle shape with one or two holes for fastening the strap to something secure. Often this means screwing the strap into wood or concrete. Some pipe straps hold the pipe firmly against the surface you are attaching it to, while others are designed to hold the pipe away from the wall to prevent chafing.
Pipe Support Brackets
Pipe brackets are usually a plate or mechanism that the whole pipe fits through. Often the bracket will have multiple holes for the pipe to fit through. The brackets are secured to beams or a wall to keep them in place.
Pipe Support Stands
Pipe stands are often a tripod style or post style structure that has a place for the pipe to lay. They can be moved up or down to assist with installation and getting the pipe into the proper position.
Commonly Asked Questions
Why is Pipe Support Important?
Pipe that is not properly supported can actually cause damage to the pipe line. Even joints that are threaded or cemented well can fracture or fail when the weight of the pipe is causing prolonged tension. The same goes for valves and other equipment that is not properly supported.
How far apart should I space my supports?
Most local building codes have specific spacing guidelines for the type and size of pipe you are using. Always refer to your local code to make sure your installation is safe and legal.
What size straps should I use?
Choose straps that match the nominal size of your pipe. Our pipe straps use the same sizing system as Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC pipe.
Why do pipes move after installation?
There are a few reasons pipe lines could shift or move after install. One is simply the force of liquid passing through. If you have ever been inside a home and heard tapping or clinking when you turn on a faucet that is what you are probably hearing. Movement can also happen due to environmental changes, like fluctuations in temperature. For this reason, it is a good idea to account for some movement when installing supports.
