Most people know that PVC parts are useful when it comes to plumbing or irrigation, but sometimes PVC parts can be used to make something really neat. Last month, Eagle Scout James O’Reilly decided for his Eagle project he would make something that improved the lives of dogs in need. He decided to build raised PVC dog beds and donate them to his local Humane Society.
James spent weeks researching, procuring materials, and building the beds. Earlier this month he dropped them off at Blooming Grove Humane Society – 20 beds total! The result was lots of smiles and happy dogs.
Did You Know?
Did you know PVC raised dog beds are widely used in animal shelters and rescues across the country? The raised bed style keeps pups off the cold, wet ground, and the material used is usually weather and mildew resistant. The sturdy durability and easy cleaning of the PVC frame and outdoor fabric make this type of bed ideal for shelters. Plus, they are relatively inexpensive to make compared to other bed options.
For his PVC dog beds James used 1-1/4” Schedule 40 PVC Pipe, 1-1/4” 4-Way PVC Fittings, and 1-1/4” PVC Flat Caps. Instructions for similar beds can be found online.
PVC Fittings Online is thrilled we could be a small part of this project. We love to see our products used in ways that make this world a little bit better. Way to go, James!
