Carbon Steel Check Valves

Check valves are necessary in certain applications. They prevent backflow, which is when fluid attempts to travel backwards through a system. The most common way they do this is with a disc, such as in swing check valves. Swing check valves use a disc on a hinge that only swings one way. You place them in a pipeline so that when fluid is traveling the correct direction, it swings the valve open and is allowed to pass through. If liquid tries to flow backwards, the disc is pushed against the valve's body, sealing the pipeline. This is just one type of check valve, but it is a perfect example of what check valves do! Check valves are often used to protect equipment or prevent blockage in systems. If fluid is allowed to flow backwards through a system, it could get stuck and cause pressure buildup. These carbon steel check valves are highly corrosion-resistant, in addition to having excellent pressure ratings. Carbon steel is a lower-cost alternative to stainless steel because its temperature limit is a lower and it does not have the glossy stainless steel look. In functionality, the materials are often used interchangeably, however, which speaks to carbon steel's excellent quality.
