Can this be used in a sink drain line? Can it be mounted vertically? It says it is 'PVC' so I assume it can be glued in the the line.

These are made to be used for plumbing applications only. Debris can get trapped into the valve and clog it up.

The main difference here is the S1720C-10 has True Union Socket ends. The unions allow for the valve to be removed and cleaned if necessary. Size or flow velocity may be a factor for your application. For S1720C-10 the flow velocity should not exceed 5ft/sec.

The S1520C-10 has socket ends. This valve could be harder to removed and clean if needed.

The difference between the S1520C and the S1720C is that the S1720C is a true union valve. You can unscrew the ends, if you need to make repairs or change out the body, and screw them back on.

Is the inner diameter of this product 1.5" such that a 1.5" OD pipe can be glued into the opening and exit?

When you see a size with a pipe, it's referencing the ID of the pipe. No one references the OD of the pipe within the industry. Also, when you see a fitting or valve with a measurement, it's telling you what size pipe it pairs with, not what size the fitting or valve is. Since the pipe is intended to slip *inside* of a socket ending, the ID of the fitting or valve will be the same as the OD of the pipe. The OD of pipe (and ID of this valve) is 1.9". This is an industry-wide standard.
