Compared to other valve designs, butterfly valves stand out for their simple, compact construction with low weight and small space requirements. They provide quick, reliable on/off operation and accurate flow control over a wide range of conditions. Their metal disc forms a tight seal against a resilient rubber seat when closed, enabling them to withstand high pressures up to several hundred PSI. The metal body is also highly durable and corrosion-resistant. Butterfly valves feature either lubricated or non-lubricated shafts. Lubricated shaft models use O-rings or bushings to seal in lubricant, allowing for frequent cycling and remote control actuation. Non-lubricated shafts require no maintenance but are best suited for modulating or on/off services requiring infrequent operation. Actuation for these industrial valves includes manual hand levers, pneumatic piston actuators, and electric actuators. With advantages like low cost, lightweight, easy maintenance, and versatility of application, metal butterfly valves are an excellent choice for flow control across industries like chemical processing, oil and gas, mining, paper and pulp, wastewater treatment, food and beverage, power generation, and more. Their durable sealed construction makes them especially well-suited for handling corrosive media. With proper material selection and seating configuration, they can regulate everything from clean liquids and gases to highly abrasive slurries.
