Directions for Creating the PVC Pumpkin Spider
In just a few simple steps you’ll be able to make your very own PVC pumpkin holder.
Step 1: Cut Your PVC Pipe. Cut the pipe into:
- (8) 15" sections
- (10) 10" sections
- (14) 2" sections
Step 2: Make Two Sides of the Spider. Take 2 of the side elbow tees and connect them with a 10” section of PVC. Repeat a second time.
Step 3: Make the Other Two Sides of the Spider. Take 2 tees, and 3 2” sections and connect them in a straight line. Ensure the open slip on the tee is pointing upwards. Repeat a second time.
Step 4: Make the Belly or Body of the Spider. Take what you’ve made in step 2 and 3 and connect them together to make a square.
Step 5: Prepare the Body of the Spider for the Legs. In all 8 open slips insert a 2” section of PVC. Then place a 45° elbow on each 2” piece. Make sure the openings of the 45° elbows are pointing outwards (not towards the middle of the square – these openings will be where the legs of the spider will be attached).
Step 6: Attach the Top Part of the Spider Legs. Insert a 10” section onto each 45° elbow, placing a 90° elbow on the end of each.
Step 7: Finish with the Bottom Part of the Spider Legs. Slip your 15” pieces into the open end of your 90° elbow, and place an end cap on each.
Step 8: Place Your Pumpkin in the Spider’s Belly. Take your PVC spider outside to your porch or garden and place your pumpkin in the middle of the square. Voila! Your spider pumpkin is ready to terrify your neighbors and keep the ghostlies away! Use one large pumpkin for the body of the spider or use a pile of small pumpkins to create the body. Below you’ll find suggestions for decorating the pumpkin and the spider’s legs.

Make It Your Own
Now that you’ve got the frame of your spider built, it’s time to go crazy! The best part about this project that is that you can decorate it however you want. Leave your spider with white (or whatever color PVC you buy) legs, paint them black, or make them look like a rainbow! Give each kid a few legs and let them go at it.
Maybe instead of decorating the legs, you decide to decorate your pumpkin. The best part about pumpkins is that they are an easy (and messy!) medium to work with. Carve a face into your pumpkin, or paint one on. Or get really creative and use some googly eyes to recreate the spider’s many eyes. Truly, your options are endless!
