After stumbling across a front-entry PVC flagpole blog post, we were intrigued. What other 4th of July party decorations can be made from PVC? Below, we share the PVC flagpole instructions and three other 4th of July DIY projects that you can make using PVC. These project ideas are inexpensive, easy, and fun, and they are easy on your budget.
1. Front-Entry PVC Flagpole
Looking for 4th of July decorating ideas for outside? Fly the stars and stripes of the USA is the most popular 4th of July porch decorating idea, but the flagpoles you find in store bend easily and don’t last. PVC is durable and perfect for making a flagpole. You can either use furniture grade pipe that has added UV protection, or you can paint schedule 40 PVC pipe to give it some UV protection and pizazz!

2. Large Porch Firecrackers
Another great 4th of July porch decorating idea is to make large firecrackers and add some patriotic paint. Although the example in the link below uses wood, you can also use PVC pipe. We think 3” schedule 40 PVC pipe would be great, as it has an outer diameter of 3.5” (just like the wooden post). Since you’re painting the pipe, you’re adding UV protection. We suggest using one 5 foot length of pipe and cutting it into 28 inch, 20 inch, and 12 inch lengths. You’ll also need a 3” end cap, as the top of the pipe won’t be closed to add the rope. We recommend the furniture grade version, as it features a flatter top when compared to schedule 40 PVC end caps. The firecrackers are a great 4th of July decorating idea for outside and would also be a fun project to do with your kids!

3. Table Top Firecrackers
Using the same idea as the large porch firecrackers, you can make a smaller, table-top version for a 4th of July party decorating idea. You can use 1-1/2” schedule 40 PVC pipe cut into 10 inch, 7 inch, and 5 inch pieces. Again, you’re painting the PVC, so if you’re putting it outside, you’re adding UV protection. Instead of rope, you can use twine. You’ll also need a 1” end cap, as the top of the pipe won’t be closed to add the twine. We suggest using the furniture grade version, as it features a flatter top when compared to schedule 40 PVC end caps. Add some red, white, and blue paint, and you have an eye-catching 4th of July décor idea. This is simple, fun, and inexpensive craft that kids would enjoy helping you create.

4. Windsock
Windsocks are a classic 4th of July porch decorating idea, but the ones you buy in the store become tattered and faded. Using a 3” schedule 40 PVC coupling, twine, and ribbon, you can a create studier and longer-lasting windsock – you just have to replace the ribbon every few summers, and ribbon is also inexpensive. Although the example in the link below uses tin cans, we suggest using PVC, as tin can rust. Instead of drilling a role in the top, which you can’t do because the coupling is open on both ends, you can either drill holes on the sides, or you can use glue to attach the twine to inside walls of the coupling on either side. This 4th of July party decoration is easy and won’t break the bank.
