Check valves are devices that allow flow to go only in one direction, preventing flow reversal with minimal pressure drop. They are made from plastic and stainless steel, so colors range from white, black and grey. They range in size from 0.2 inches to 48 inches. Used in home plumbing systems and industrial uses such as water desalination plants.
Ball valves have a spherical disc which controls the flow. They are durable because after years of use they will still achieve flow shutoff. They come in five styles: Single body, three pieces, split body, top entry and welded. Ball valves can range in size from 0.2 inches to 11 inches.
Valve FAQs
Q. Is my valve open or closed?
A. The general rule is, if the valve handle is in line with the flow path, it is on. If the valve handle is 90 degrees / perpendicular to the flow path, it is off.
Q. What is the most commonly used valve type?
A. Gate valves are the most widely used valve type on the market. Gate valves use liner motion to start and stop the flow and are used in the fully open or closed positions.
Q. How do valves work?
A. A valve is a type of fitting that allows for regulation, control, and direction control of fluids passing through it. Valves are commonly used to direct flow, shut off flow, and prevent flow.
Q. Are valves suitable for use in corrosive environments?
A. Yes, PVC, CPVC, stainless steel, bronze, and copper-nickel are materials commonly used in corrosive applications that tend to last longer than alternatives.
