Looking for a DIY project that is useful and fun? Try this bank rod holder with a beverage holder attachment made from PVC! When shoreline fishing, you can place your fishing rod and drink of choice in this holder while waiting for the fish to bite. This PVC-version is stronger than its store-bought equivalent, and it has the bonus customized beverage holder. For under $25 and less than 20-minutes of your time, you can make one of your own! Just follow the simple instructions below.
What You Need (All Schedule 40 PVC)
- Tape measure
- Electric saw
- Three feet of 1-1/2” Pipe cut into the following sections:
1.5 feet
b. 1 foot
c. 4 inches - 1-1/2” Tee – between the pipe 401-015
- 1-1/2” Elbow – attached to tee to four inches of pipe 409-015
- 3” x 2-1/2” Reducer Coupling – attached to the bushing 429-339
- 2-1/2” x 1-1/2” Reducer Bushing SPG x S – attached to the other side of the four inches of pipe 437-291
Step One: Cut an Angle
After you’ve cut your pipe into the three sections you’ll need, cut a 45-degree angle at the bottom of the 1.5-foot section of pipe. This will allow you to insert the holder into the sand with ease.
Step Two: Make the Rod Holder
Into the uncut side of the 1.5-foot section, push on one end of the tee. Onto the other side of the tee, push on the 1-foot section of pipe.
Step Three: Make the Beverage Holder Attachment
You should have the outlet of the tee open, and into that, you will push the smaller end of the elbow. Take the four inch piece of pipe and insert into the other side of the elbow.
Push the smaller end of the bushing onto the other side of the four inch piece of pipe. For the final step, you will insert the smaller end of the reducer coupling into the larger, remaining side of the bushing.
You can opt to glue all of the pieces together, but we suggest assembling it without the glue first. If you don’t use the glue, you can dissemble it for easier storage.
