How to Make PVC Christmas Trees

How to Make PVC Christmas Trees

Mark Ligon |

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is not only a time for seeing family and gifting presents, it’s also a time for decorations. Many neighborhoods host Christmas decorating contests, and this year you can use PVC to enhance your decorating game. Below, we’ll walk you through two different kinds of PVC Christmas trees you can make. Each only requires some simple PVC pipe and fittings (and decorations!). Make both or pick the one that best suits your family!

Outdoor PVC Christmas Tree

Our first Christmas tree is truly a timeless decoration. Once this tree is put together you may never want to take it down. With its octagon-shaped base, it’s sturdy on its own but we suggest using PVC primer and cement to make it even stronger. We made our Christmas tree with white PVC, but we also sell green PVC if you’d like to make your tree truly shine for Christmas.

To make this Christmas tree, you’ll need 30 feet of ¾” PVC pipe cut into:

     (12) 2 ¼” pieces
     (12) 5” pieces
     (16) 6” pieces
     (4) 10 ½” pieces
     (4) 12” pieces
     (4) 18” pieces

For your fittings you’ll need:

     (8) 3/4” tees
     (8) ¾” 5-way tees
     (24) 45° elbows

Check out the video below to find out how to put your tree together.

Simple DIY Christmas Tree

This Christmas tree is simpler to put together and would be an amazing project to do with the kids. Because it uses less parts than the above tree, you could even make multiple and let every kid have their own tree! To make this tree you’ll need 15 feet of ¾” PVC pipe cut into:

     (3) 6” pieces
     (1) 8” piece
     (3) 10” pieces
     (2) 14” pieces
     (1) 15” piece
     (2) 18” piece

You’ll also need five ¾” crosses.

Spreading Christmas Cheer with PVC

Whether you’re building homemade Christmas trees to beat out Jim next door in this year’s decoration contest or building them as a fun project to do as a family, PVC Christmas trees are an excellent way to spread holiday cheer. With their simple designs and the endless possibilities for decorating them, these PVC Christmas trees will be a staple decoration for years to come.
