Who said school had to be serious? At PVC Fittings Online, we believe the more fun an educational project is, the more likely kids will remember what they learned. A school in Evansville, IN has this same philosophy. Scott Elementary School recently had their 6th grade math and science students build a 9 Square game. These students learned engineering skills and got to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
PVC Fittings Online had the opportunity to donate PVC piping and fittings for this educational project. The DIY 9 Square game was a hit among the Scott School students. We’ve shared the details of this project below so you can enjoy it, too. It’s the perfect activity for schools, churches, and camps.
6th Grade Students Construct a DIY 9 Square Game
Currently, Scott School’s PTA has an ongoing initiative to upgrade their playground. The PTA Vice-President (and 6th grade math and science teacher), Gayle Mooney, decided to enlist the help of her smart, capable students in making a new activity for Scott School. Ms. Mooney’s students had been working on an engineering module so she thought this was a great opportunity to educate her students on engineering skills and to help out the school.
Because it was so late in the year, Ms. Mooney said they didn’t have the funding for supplies for making a 9 Square game. She still had faith it would work out in the end. After contacting several companies, including PVC Fittings Online, this dedicated teacher secured enough donated supplies to enable her students to learn through a hands-on experience.
Ms. Mooney posed this question to her students: “Can you build a 9 Square game with PVC pipes and connectors?” From here, it was up to the 6th grade students to figure out how to successfully complete the project. They used PVC piping that was generously cut by the school’s custodian and finished constructing the 9 Square structure through teamwork.
The kids had a blast while learning engineering, construction, and collaboration skills.
Supporting Fun School Activities
Kids don’t want to sit at a desk all day, and that’s why a 6th grade teacher at Scott School had her students construct a 9 Square game for their engineering project. They’ve proven that with the right support, encouragement, and supplies, young students can accomplish anything!
PVC Fittings Online enjoyed being a part of this fun DIY project and hope to help with many more! If you have a cool project idea for your school and need PVC supplies to make it come to life, contact us today using our school project form. The future of education is bright, interactive, and fun!
