Step 1: Cut Pipes and Fitting

cut elbow for diy tile cleaner projectYou will be hard-pressed to find PEX or PVC pipe in lengths shorter than 5 feet, so you will need to cut the proper lengths out of the large pieces. Use your measuring tape to measure 2" on your PEX and 8" on your PVC. Using your hacksaw, cut the PVC to the appropriate length. You may need a utility knife to cut the PEX, as it is more flexible.

Next, you will need to cut a space in the tee fitting, as shown in the picture below. The space should be around 1/2" across. Also, measure 3/8" from the end on each side of the tee so your scouring pad will stick out on the sides. Measure and make cuts with your hacksaw.

Step 2: Attach Pad

To attach the scouring pad, fold it around your 2" section of PEX tubing. This is what your screws will attach to. Slide the PEX, wrapped in scouring pad, into the side of the tee. The ends of the scouring pad should stick out of the gap you cut earlier.

Once the pad and PEX are inside the tee fitting, insert screws through the back of the tee and into the PEX piece inside. This will hold it secure and ensure you can scrub as hard as you need without loosening the pad.

Step 3: Build Structure

This DIY PVC tiles cleaner pad has a very straightforward structure. The PVC pipe is simply placed between the elbow and the tee. Make sure everything fits correctly before applying PVC cement. The glue is important because this tool will be under significant stress. You don't want it falling apart all the time. PVC cement makes a strong bond that sets quickly, so this step will not take long. Apply a thin layer on the inside of the fitting, where it will touch the pipe, then insert the pipe.
