How to Make an Outdoor PVC Antenna Stand

Mark Ligon |

Are you looking to elevate your tailgating or camping experience with an outdoor tv antenna? Or maybe you need an affordable solution for temporarily mounting your antenna. We’ll guide you through all the steps of two options for creating an outdoor antenna stand made from PVC pipe and fittings.

Low and Long Antenna Stand

The low and long PVC antenna stand is great for placing on top of a vehicle in the parking lot of a sporting event or music venue. The base of this stand is low to the ground and provides a sturdy foundation.

Here’s what you need:

3 - 1” PVC Tee’s
4 - 1” 45 Degree PVC Elbows
4 - 1” PVC End Caps
1 - 1” PVC Pipe Cut to a length of 18”
2 - 1” PVC Pipe Cut to a length of 12”
8 - 1” PVC Pipe Cut to a length of 6”

Step 1 - Build the Legs
Take the 45 Degree Elbow and insert a 6” pipe into each open end. On one end of a 6” pipe place the PVC End Cap. Repeat this step 3 more times.

Step 2 - Connect the legs
Take one of the legs and insert it into the left or right side opening of one tee. Insert another leg into the opposite side of the tee, keeping the center outlet open. Repeat this step one more time.

Step 3 - Connect the Center
Take each of the 12” pieces of pipe and insert into the open ends of the Tee connecting the legs. Take the remaining tee and insert each open end of 12” pipe to the left and right sockets of the tee so that the center socket points up.

Step 4 - Insert Final Pipe
On the open socket of the center tee insert the 18” long pipe.

Now you’re ready to attach your outdoor antenna.

The low and long antenna stand can be made permanent using primer and solvent cement. You may only want to cement certain connections so that you can assemble and disassemble as needed. Use caution in high winds. You may need to secure the stand to the ground in windy conditions.

Another option for a camping or tailgating antenna stand is one we’re calling the compact tower.

Compact Tower Antenna Stand

The Compact Tower Antenna Stand is great for taking up a smaller footprint when space is limited. The compact tower antenna can be used on top of a vehicle but is likely more suited for use on the ground.

Here’s what you need:

1 - 1” PVC 5-Way Furniture Fitting
4 - 1” 45 Degree PVC Elbows
4 - 1” PVC End Caps
8 - 1” PVC Pipe Cut to a length of 6”
1 - 1” PVC Pipe Cut to a length of 18”

Step 1 - Build the Legs
Take the 45 Degree Elbow and insert a 6” pipe into each open end. On one end of a 6” pipe place the PVC End Cap. Repeat this step 3 more times.

Step 2 - Connect the legs to the center
Take the 5-Way Furniture Fitting and orient it with the center socket pointing up. Insert the legs into the 4 open sockets leaving the center socket open.

Step 3 - Complete The Tower
Take the 18” long PVC pipe and insert it into the open center socket of the 5-Way Fitting.

Now you’re ready to attach your outdoor antenna.

Enjoy the game!
